Government Shutdown Employment Alert

Government shutdowns affect employers by rendering E-Verify services unavailable.  E-Verify is an electronic, internet-based system that compares information from employees I-9 to records available to the U.S Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration to confirm employment eligibility.

• United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has suspended the 3-day rule and;

• Extended the time period for employers to resolve Tentative Nonconfimrations (TNC).  

Employers may not take adverse actions against an employee because of his or her E-Verify status.
